A “Supermoon” is the coincidence of a full moon (or a new moon) with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit.

As a consequence of a Supermoon, the Moon appears as much as 16 % bigger and 30 % brighter than other full moons of 2012—not a huge amount, but definitely noticeable.
Supermoons have been happening for billions of years, so if you miss this month’s supermoon, don’t worry, you can definitely see it again. And no worries, nothing particularly special occurs on these dates—except, of course, for a beautiful full moon!
