Desktop Earth is a wallpaper generator available as free download (6MB) here. Desktop Earth will generate a high-resolution (the imagery is calculated from high-resolution 2560×1280 textures!!) representation of the Earth combined with city lights data which will be used to generate the Wallpaper. The image also changes automatically to represent snow and foilage changes across the seasons. Definitely amazing!
The result will be a live view of the earth right there on your desktop!
You can set the Refresh rate of the images to:
- 1 min
- 5 min
- 15 min
- 60 min
The images are based on NASA’s Blue Marble Next and Earth’s City Lights.
